Michelle Fortin has been the Executive Director of Watari Counselling & Support Service Society since 2003, holding previous positions with with the Society since 1993. Now in her 20th year at Watari, she is responsible for ongoing program development, staff training and fundraising, and is deeply committed to the idea of possibilities for individuals and communities in a solution-focused approach her the work. Michelle is active in her community through sport associations and volunteer work in the arts and cooperative sector. In her spare time travel, sports and family are her passions.
A native of Winnipeg and a graduate of the University of Victoria, Jill worked in the child protection field in Vancouver's Downtown Eastside for 25 years before switching gears and becoming a bookkeeper. With a never-ending supply of financials to keep her motivated and engaged, she enjoys making the financial side of Watari as stress-free and user-friendly as possible for staff. Outside of her role at Watari, Jill is an avid gardener, bookreader and soccer player.
Youth Services Manager
Devika has worked in the Social Service Sector since 1990, has an undergraduate degree in Child and Youth Care and is currently completing a Masters in Social Work through the University of British Columbia. Her first-hand participation in Neighbourhood House programming brought her into the field of community work. As manager of youth services at Watari, she supports staff to create meaningful connections with the diverse clients Watari serves. Devika encourages the youth team to bring their unique gifts and skills to their work, helping to contribute to the Watari culture of fulfilled and inspired staff members. In her spare time, this mother of two is a running enthusiast and finds immense joy engaging in anything that takes her outside with family or into the woods with a tent.
